Christmas is just over a week away with many people now having wrapped upward their festive shopping.

The Money Saving Expert (MSE) founder has said that there are now express dates left this calendar month where supermarkets will slash the toll of their Christmas food in a strategy known as ‘loss leading’, according to Yorkshire Live.

Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Lidl have announced their loss leader dates so far but others such as Tesco, Asda and Morrisons should announce theirs soon. The supermarkets lose money on every loss leader sold, hence the term, withal they practice information technology to get people through the doors, where they may spend money on other higher margin items instead to make up for information technology.

Speaking on his Martin Lewis Podcast for the BBC, the financial guru said: “The Christmas vegetable price war – information technology’s on.

“15p carrots, potatoes, sprouts and more. Lidl has got them from Thursday December xv. Aldi from Sun December xviii to Saturday December 24.

“Sainsbury’s from Sunday 18th of December.

“It’s at this indicate of the year these loss leaders are put on sale in the supermarkets to help people with their Christmas dinners to get you in shop.

“Pretty much all of them do it, those are the ones that are announced so far simply I await many of the other supermarkets to choice them up soon too.”
